This paper analyzes the role of forests in the fight against climate change in order to achieve the objective of “zero deforestation”, based on the commitments assumed by thecountry in the Paris Agreement. Thus it will determine the degree of concretion of that commitment in Argentina. To this end, the current regulations on deforestation in Argentina and specifically in the province of Santiago del Estero are analyzed from a trialist perspective, in order to assess the effectiveness of those regulations. From the analysis carried out we can affirm that deforestation continues to be the most urgent issue in which Argentina must work seriously to fulfill the commitments assumed in the agreement. Stopping deforestation does not refer only to forests, but implies new models of production that commit the private sector to voluntarily stimulate the chains of supply free of deforestation. In order to achieve “zero deforestation” it is necessary to specify the concept, and articulate actions and commitments of the State, companies and society, to achieve the aforementioned sustainability, in an adequate legal framework, with the implementation of concrete policies oriented towards greater sustainability in land uses and development.
