Abstract

This article delves into the dynamic interconnection between the rich history of the indigenous peoples of the Mexico Basin and the growing urbanization of Mexico City. Drawing from Medina’s proposal (2009), distinctive characteristics of these peoples are identified. The analysis focuses on Iztacalco, where religious organizations are explored as key elements in preserving community traditions. The summary addresses contemporary tensions, such as the decline in young people’s interest in assuming responsibilities due to economic reasons. In conclusion, the article provides a detailed view of the complexity and vitality of the Indigenous Peoples and Neighborhoods of the Mexico Basin, highlighting their adaptability and unique contribution to the ever-changing social fabric of Mexico City.
