Abstract

This paper aims to present the research project "Gender models among university students from an intercultural perspective" and the principal elements on which it is based. The first is related to the intervention: analysis of the needs of the Spanish university context and gender policies and equality that take place there. The second refers to a theoretical position: the concept of gender is understood as relational, understanding from this perspective how normative gender models of masculinity and femininity continue to affect the freedom of personal identity definition, relationships with others, the roles, expectations and practices, bases of a patriarchal system that persists in its foundations in contemporary societies. The research focuses on the university environment, from an intercultural perspective, with the objective to understand the persistence of normative gender models, both in men and women's perception, and can develop a diagnosis of the situation of equality more effective in to develop of truly effective "gender policies". Furthermore, from the perspective of intervention, an intercultural perspective allows us to analyze, share and disseminate good practices developed in Latin American and European universities, opening perspectives and widening the very meaning of the words and concepts that from the perspective of gender, we usually use.
