Explorations on Bilingual Intercultural Education in Argentina
Abstract
The goal of this article is to assess the state of the art of Intercultural Bilingual Education (IBE) policies in Argentina. In the first section of this paper, the educational policies on cultural and linguistic diversity are contextualized historically. This paper is based on a reflection on the subject based on the systematization of legislation, bibliography and research and intervention experiences in various IBE projects. This text is organized in three sections. First, I summaryze the characteristics that have defined this educational policy for indigenous. Particularly the scope of what implies a “bilingual” and “intercultural” education. Later, IBE is defined considering main characteristics of this education policy, from a general perspective, to make a global diagnosis of this educational policy for indigenous peoples. Finally, the conclusions list the challenges, goals that have yet to be achieved and the future perspectives of this educational policy.
